2004 Annual Council Meetings
International Youth Exchange Report
Not many months have passed since the report on the International Youth Exchange Programme at the Council Meeting in South
Africa last September, and a few enquiries have been received.
To date this year Mary Bailey from Cumbria, England, will be visiting Jersey Island and staying at La Ferme in June for
three months, and Guillermo Villamil from Colombia hopes to go to New Zealand on the Programme. If this materialises he
will be the first young person from this country to take part in the programme.
At the Council Meeting last year it was great to meet up with Rena Rousseau (from South Africa) who took part on the
Programme in 1996 visiting England, Jersey and Denmark. Rena married a farmer in the Eastern Cape last year
(congratulations) and is employed by Taurus AI Centre and claims that due to her participation in the Youth Programme she
was offered this post - it is so good to see a young person achieving success and doing the job well.
It is still early into 2004 and hopefully this year will see more participants taking part even with the uncertainty in
farming around the world and not so many young people entering the industry or having the time to travel. However, the
International Youth Exchange Programme still remains a very rewarding and challenging part of the Bureau's work to be
involved with and to continue to encourage young people to take part.
The Programme is a wonderful and exciting opportunity for young people to partake in what the Programme offers:- MORE
KNOWLEDGE OF THE JERSEY BREED - LEARNING EXPERIENCE - FRIENDSHIP - POSSIBILITY OF LEARNING ANOTHER LANGUAGE - SEEING A
COUNTRY AND ITS CULTURE.
Respectfully submitted,
Anne Corner
