18th WJCB Conference
Jersey, May 2008

  • Pre-Conference Tour of the United Kingdom - 10th to 18th May,
Taking in some of the most picturesque locations to be found in England, your eight day tour will begin in the South East and will include visits to some of the flagship Jersey farms, including the Royal Farm at Windsor, home to Her Majesty The Queen’s own Jersey herd.

From here the tour will continue north, providing the chance to see two of the UK’s greatest National Parks, the North York Moors and the famous ‘James Herriot Country’ of the Yorkshire Dales. Continuing down the west of the country, visits take in the City of Chester and Ironbridge (the birthplace of the industrial revolution). Highlights include a steam train ride on the Severn Valley Railway, and a tour of one of the UK’s most famous heritage sites, Stonehenge.

Following a day at the Devon Show, which includes a British show of Jerseys, delegates visit and enjoy dinner at Salisbury Cathedral. The pre-conference tour week finishes with a day in London for an excellent opportunity to take in some of the sights and sounds of the Capital City.

  • Conference Week - Island of Jersey - 18th to 25th May
Your conference week in the idyllic Channel Island home of the Jersey breed is a chance not to be missed. Staying in one of the Island’s premier hotels for the duration of your stay, there will be a real opportunity to relax and enjoy the best the Island has to offer. The 18th WJCB International Conference will be informative and challenging with a line up of top speakers. As well as the formal sessions, there will be an alternative tour programme running alongside taking in the Island’s top visitor attractions, including the world famous ‘War Tunnels’.

Every day will be filled with memorable activities and visits, and the opportunity to meet some of the Island’s true characters. Evening entertainment includes a visit and dining at the globally acclaimed Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, an al fresco buffet at Mont Orgueil - a 13th Century castle with commanding coastal views, as well as a finale dinner at one of the Island’s manor houses.

Farm visits will take you to the Island’s prized herds, ‘Coming Home’ to where it all began. A chance to renew old friendships, meet today’s breeders of the Jersey in its Island home, compare experiences and discuss issues affecting the Jersey and dairying around the world. The week will culminate with the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society’s ‘Foire de Jersey’ a traditional Spring show with a food fair, hospitality and entertainments, as well as the Island’s Conference Show.

In 2008, the RJA&HS is also celebrating its 175th Anniversary. The 18th World Jersey Cattle Bureau Conference is the pinnacle of the year of celebration and promises to make the event special for all. It will be an opportunity to meet and renew friendships with Jersey cattle breeders from all 38 member countries worldwide. A trip to Jersey, the Island home of the breed, is a must for all Jersey cattle enthusiasts at least ‘once in a lifetime’.
