Guatemala

Jerseys first arrived in Guatemala in 1896 and today it is the principal dairy breed with over 60% of all registered cattle – over 10,000 head – being Jerseys. The Jersey Association in Guatemala has been very active in its 19-year existence and has introduced many breed initiatives that have been copied by other breed associations. The tremendous diversity from the humid, warm Pacific Ocean plains, temperate central valleys and chilly high mountains really tests the versatility of the Jersey cow – and she comes through with flying colours!
