Jersey
The home of the breed today has 35 herds farmed in modern units averaging nearly 100 cows each with several herds over 200 cows. The Island has maintained its purity of stock by not importing any other genetics thus making it a unique population of cattle. All cattle in Jersey are pedigree registered and officially milk recorded. The average for 20021 was 4,550 kg milk, 237 kg fat (5.22%) 171 kg protein (3.75%). Traditionally, the Island has exported cattle and semen to all parts of the world, and still does so today.
The RJA&HS provides all regular activities of a breed association as well as organising livestock shows and herd competitions. It’s new headquarters, which houses the “World Jersey Library” and the office of the World Jersey Cattle Bureau, was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in July 2001.
