JERSEY ACTIVITY LEVEL REACHES INCREDIBLE HEIGHTS THIS SUMMER!

WORLD #1 JERSEY SPECTACULAR SHOW TRULY IS A SPECTACULAR EVENT!

The very well-kept grounds of Ayer’s Cliff Fair in the stunning Eastern Townships of Quebec made a perfect setting for the recent powerful World #1 Jersey Spectacular Show!

A very large crowd including 80 international participants in the pre- conference tour associated with the 17th International Conference of the World Jersey Cattle Bureau were treated to a true Jersey spectacle at this incredibly competitive show! The quality of cattle exhibited would easily rival the depth on display at the annual National Jersey Show at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Over 100 head from over 30 exhibitors in Quebec, the host province, and Ontario and Saskatchewan and Indiana and California in the USA wowed the intensely interested crowd!

Adding international flavour to the show was selection of Larry Schirm from Columbus, Ohio, USA as Judge. Schirm is a seasoned international traveler and judge of Jerseys and other breeds.

The term “banner day” certainly applies to the results of the Rapid Bay Jersey herd owned by the Borland family of Ormstown, Quebec! Not only did their string capture the Premier Breeder and Exhibitor banners but also fielded the first prize Breeders Herd and the home-bred Grand Champion Female.

Rapid Bay Whistler’s Rumour Ex- 95-4E, almost nine years old and a well-seasoned veteran of the show ring with records to over 8100 kgs of milk was Schirm’s choice as Senior and Grand Champion. He lauded the longevity and soundness of this daughter of Bonnyburn Ali Whistler, a sire born and bred just two miles from the show site.

Another perennially successful cow Glenholme Jade’s Marcie Ex-92, followed closely behind Rumour as the Reserve Senior and Grand Champion Female. Marcie was bred the Mellow family of Glenholme Jerseys, Bolton, Ontario. She is owned by Ferme Ralston and Remy and Liette Labbe of Ferme Lystel, Lyster, Quebec. She is a daughter of Giprat Belle’s Jade marketed by Rapid Bay and has lactations with over 8100 kgs milk and 425 kgs fat.

The runner-up to these two competitive cows was another accomplished veteran of the ring battles Huronia SD Gretchen 34k, VG-88. Gretchen is a daughter of Shamrock Duaiseoir ET bred by Fred and Ruth Armstrong of Auburn, Ontario and owned by Rock Ella II of Hornby, Ontario. She has lactations to over 9100 kgs of milk.

A terrific heifer show was headlined by three amazing heifers! The Junior Champion, Bridon Aggression Alexandra is sired by Bridon MCT Aggression and was bred by the Sayles family of Bridon Farms, Paris, Ontario. She is owned by the partnership of Belfontaine, Lambert and Lepage, Louiseville, Quebec. Ending up as bridesmaid to Alexandra was Payneside Extreme Nike, an intermediate yearling who has already established a long list of show victories for her owners Ferme Jocelyn Cote and Ferme Clemar, Durham-Sud, Quebec. Nike was bred by the Robinson family of Payneside Farm, Finch, Ontario. She is sired by ABS sire Piedmont Nadine Extreme. Standing next to her as Honourable Mention Junior Champion was another Eastern- Ontario bred and born heifer Drentex Blackstar Baby J, owned by Lookout Jerseys and Holsteins and Verna and Randy Peterson, Canton-de-Hatley, Quebec. Baby J was bred by Julie Bols and family of Russell, Ontario. She is a daughter of Heaths Blackstar.

Other owners of class winners included Gary and Maureen Bowers, Coaticook, Quebec; Paul and Lorraine Franken of Clinton Ontario and Mike Sleegers of Belmont, Ontario; Select Jerseys and Ferme Scottiere, St. Paul d’Abbotsford, Quebec; Hollylane Jerseys, Corbyville, Ontario; Ferme Pierre Boulet, Montmagny, Quebec; and Hollylane, Mc- Morrow and Werry of Corbyville, Ontario.

Banners for both Junior Premier Breeder and Junior Premier Exhibitor were won by Marcellin Scott and Celine Bernard of Ferme Scottiere, St. Paul de Abbotsford, Quebec.
