JERSEY CANADA NEWS RELEASE

"CHASING JERSEYS IN THE BELLECHASSE REGION OF QUEBEC!"

The small village of Saint-Anselme, just south of Quebec City, provincial capital of Quebec was the site of an extraordinary Jersey sale on July 9th! 33 head of Jerseys from consignors in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and even Jersey Island attracted a terrific average of $3142!!

The sale was held as part of the "11th Expo- Vente" a key program highlight of L'Expo B.B.Q. Bellechasse. This was only the second year that Jerseys had been added to the sale roster. Some key Jersey leaders in Quebec like Marcel Choiniere, President of Jersey Quebec and Marie-Claire Girod, sense a terrific increase in interest in the Jersey breed in this dairy farm- rich area of Canada's largest dairy province.
They strongly proposed that the major summer Jersey event in Quebec be delivered at this event. The wisdom of their foresight was well proven by the results of the sale. Twenty two different buyers appeared on the list of purchasers. Of these nineteen were very new Jersey owners  with two Ontario buyers and one partnership of two established Quebec herds!!
A standing room only crowd greeted the arrival of the Jersey lots after completion of the Holstein portion of the sale.
A flurry of rapid budding greeted the first live Jersey lot and eventual high seller HAUTPRE FUSION FANNY, a beautiful November 2003 heifer. Her selling price of $7400 was almost two thousand dollars above the price of the next highest seller.
Fanny, who is the carries the highest Parent Average for Lifetime Profit Index of any Jersey heifer in Canada was the consignment of Denis Masse and Isabelle Roy of Ferme Hautpre at Louiseville Quebec. In the last decade this energetic young couple has added Jerseys to their  famed Hautpre Ayrshire herd, consistently one of the highest producing in Canada.
Fanny had all the credentials to attract great interest and she did-bids came form as far away as Alberta via cell phone!
Her sire is Semex Alliance star Molly Brook Fusion-ET the second highest bull in Canada for LPI. Her dam is Hautpre Perimiter Florence VG-87%-2yrs, the number two cow in Canada for LPI at +2148 in May 2004. Florence is a daughter of another Semex star Rock Ella Perimiter-ET the high bull for domestic LPI as of the May 2004 proof run. Florence is projected to over 8,000 kilograms of milk and 460 kilos of fat at 5.8% fat and BCAs of 310 milk, 336 fat and 328 protein. Florence is also backed by two generations of Excellent dams and is one of eight closely related members of Hautpre's F family who occupy eight places among the top 90 cows in the Jersey breed for LPI. Six of these cows rank in the top nine of the breed.
Excited new owners of this cow are the partnership of Ferme Familiale Donald Beland Inc of Neuville, Quebec and Ferme Mathis, St Hyacinthe, Quebec.
