Four leading Jersey herds in Quebec:
Lencrest, Rapid
Bay, Lookout and Select Jerseys
teamed up to present a stunning
offering of Jersey genetics in late
June. The sale was one of the
definite highlights of the pre-
conference tour of Quebec, Eastern
and Central Ontario prior to the
World Jersey Cattle Bureau
International Conference in
Waterloo, Ontario in late June/early
July.
Host farm for the sale was the highly
scenic and majestic Lookout
Holstein and Jersey Farm perched
above the quaint village of North
Hatley and the waters of Lake
Massiwippi in Quebecs Eastern
Townships. The McKinven and
Halbach families who own and
manage Lookout Farm were splendid
hosts for a massive crowd of sale
goers. 80 international delegates on
the pre-conference tour were thrilled
to be part of this tremendous
celebration of the Jersey cow!
Embryo packages from across
Canada and Australia and the United
States and live offerings from
Alberta in the west to New
Brunswick in the east captivated
bidders from five Canadian
provinces.
Pierre Boulet, auctioneer, and Marcel
Jersey Choiniere, pedigree man,
rolled along through a exciting
evening of selling that culminated in
the announcement that just over 50
head had attracted an impressive
average of $4832!!
Attracing a sale-topping bid of
$26,000 was the twice Reserve All
Canadian Potwell Whistlers Emily
VG-89%. Emily was bred by Peter
and Richard Stern of Paris, Ontario
and consigned to the sale by Marcel
Choiniere and family of Quebec. She
is now the property of Roger Guay,
Ferme Roggua and Select Jerseys of
St. Alphonse-de-Granby, Quebec.
Emily, who was second at the
RAWF in 2004 and third in 2003 is a
daughter of Quebec-bred sire
Bonnyburn Ali Whistler and her dam
is a member of the highly respected
M family originating with the
Fletcher family at Pleasant Nook
Jerseys, Fisherville, Ontario.
One of the top ten Jersey heifers in
Canada for parent average LPI
index, Cam Sultan Bella appealed to
Albertan Jersey enthusiast Robert
Thomson of Rimbey. She sold for
the sales second highest price of
$17,500. This March 2005 calf is
sired by the Semex Alliances most
popular current active sire SHF
Centurion Sultan. Bellas dam is the
fifth generation Excellent Rock Ella
Brook Belle EX-93% sired by Molly
Brook Brass Belle and out of the
immortal and legendary Duncan
Belle, Ex-3.
The CAM syndicate of Huntingdon,
Quebec; Exeter, Ontario and New
Hamburg, Ontario were consignors
of this exciting-pedigreed calf.
Thomson was also the purchaser of
the sales fourth high lot Piedmont
Amadeo Nadine-ET, a March 2004
heifer who fetched $14,500. Nadine
is a daughter of the world-renowned
Waymar Patrick Nadine, EX-97%
Supreme Champion at the World
Dairy Expo and high seller of the
2002 Piedmont Jersey dispersal.
She is sired by Piedmont Grove
Amadeo from Payneside Farms.
Bred at Piedmont Jersey Inc. in
Quebec, Amadeo Nadine was
consigned to the sale by Gary and
Maureen Bowers of Ferme Lencrest,
Coaticook, Quebec.
Pierre Boulet, Montmagny, Quebec
was pleased to purchase the sales
third high seller Bridon Furor
Legacy, VG-87% for $15,200. This
two year old is projected to almost
7,000 kilograms of milk and was
consigned by the Sayles family of
Bridon Farms Inc, Paris, Ontario.
She is sired by Alta Genetics
Piedmont Nadine Furor and from a
Very good Duncans Prince
Malcolm dam from a cow family
originating in the Charlyn herd of the
Kingdon Family of Forest, Ontario.
Since the sale Legacy was Champion
at the competitive Expo BBQ-
Bellechasse show at St-Anselme,
Quebec.
Rounding out the list of five animals
selling for over $10,000 was
Shamrock Giller Glo a senior two
year old who sold for exactly
$10,000. Glo was bred by Shamrock
Genetics Inc., Guelph, Ontario and
moves from John Beerwort and
family, Knowlton, Quebec to the
ownership of sale hosts Lookout
Jerseys and Holsteins. Glo is sired
by Shamrock Giller and her dam is a
VG-88% daughter of Shamrock
Grove Gemini from the Bonnyburn-
bred Glossy cow family.
Ten exciting embryo packages
representing some of the elite
genetics of the Jersey breed drew
strong interest.
The Davison family of Davison
Jerseys, Maple Ridge, British
Columbia invested the sales top
dollars for an embryo package when
they bid $6600 to purchase a
minimum of five embryos from a
flush to the sire of their choice. The
Morey family of Unique
Valleystream Genetics, Rochester,
Alberta consigned the opportunity
from Lencrest Par for Belle VG, the
current number one Jersey cow in
Canada for LPI at +3658. Belle is
sired by Rock Ella Paramount from
Select Sires. Her dam Piedmont
Declo Belle VG-89%, at Lencrest
Farms in Quebec is the current
number two LPI cow in Canada at
+2779 and is a daughter of Rock Ella
Brook Belle Ex-93% the afore-
mentioned dam of the sales second
high selling live lot and daughter of
Duncan Belle.
The Davisons also invested over
$4500 in a package of Windy
Willow Montana Jace embryos from
Declo Belle from Lencrest!
This sizzling sale provided strong
reinforcement for the fact that Jersey
genetics are meeting with increased
demand as each month passes here in
Canada!
