JERSEY ACTIVITY IN
CANADA HEATS UP!
SPECTACULAR AUCTION
IN
SUPPORT OF 2005 WORLD
JERSEY CONFERENCE IS A
HIGHLIGHT OF THE ROYAL
WINTER FAIR!!!
The Jersey breed across Canada
is totally on
fire with excitement about an incredible
upcoming 2005 event. Not since the late
summer of 1982 has Jersey Canada played
host to an International Conference of the World
Jersey Cattle Bureau. However, late next June
and in the first half of July it is anticipated that
delegates from over 20 countries will
congregate here for a memorable international
spectacle!
Hosting such a mammoth gathering
takes lots
of resources both human input and dollars.
The "on fire" excitement
about the conference
here in Canada has extended to other lands.
Supportive donors from Prince Edward Island ,
Ontario and Quebec in Canada and Indiana in
the USA and Jersey Island in Europe have
opened up their hearts and their treasure chests
and offered items for a World Conference
auction at the venerable and vibrant Royal
Agricultural Winter Fair.
The auction takes place as
part of a super-
exciting afternoon of Jersey thrills on
Wednesday, November 10th. At 2:00 p.m. the
impressive Royal International Jersey Futurity
holds centre court. Then at 3:00 p.m. the
organizing team for the 17th International
Conference of the World Jersey Cattle Bureau
are hosting an informative and enjoyable
reception. The purpose will be to spread all the
great news about the upcoming conference and
weeks of associated events in Quebec, Eastern
and Central Ontario, Alberta and British
Columbia.
As the reception progresses
at least eight
special items will be auctioned to a large and
interested crowd.
Included in the catalogue
of lots selling are a
collection of Jersey stamps from the 1979 World
Jersey conference on Jersey Island donated by
Mrs. Anne Perchard, M.B.E., a legendary
global Jersey leader and Past President and
current Patron of the World Jersey Cattle
Bureau. Mrs. Perchard and her family operate a
large dairy and crops farm on Jersey.
Linda Boswell, wife of current
Jersey Canada
President Wayne Boswell and thus, "2004 First
Lady" of Jersey Canada has created a splendid
woolen Christmas tree skirt for the auction.
Also available for the bidding
will be a
"handmade-ready-to-be-customized-for the-
buyer" showbox of top-notch quality!
Trish Scott of Cornerstone
Farm, Guelph,
Ontario has donated a unique painting of
unusual "breeds" of cattle. Kim Myers from
Rosewood Jerseys, Bremen, Indiana, USA has
contributed an historic painting of milkmaids and
Jersey cattle of yesteryear on Jersey Island
from her extensive collection of Jersey and dairy
history materials.
The family of the late Jersey
and dairy industry
leader Francis M. Redelmeier of Don Head
Jerseys of The Patch Farm, Richmond Hill,
Ontario have made a significant contribution.
They have given his extensive collection of dairy
and Jersey-specific pins collected over decades
of international travels to the organizing
committee.
The Norval Acres herd of
the McCaig families of
Huntingdon in Western Quebec has long been
revered as one of the finest Jersey herds in
Canada. The McCaigs have gone all out by
donating a top April 2004 heifer Norval Acres
Online Mickey-ET to the fund-raising efforts.
This calf is from one of
the very top families at
Norval Acres. Her Ex-94% dam is a fifth
generation Excellent who has garnered Three
Stars in Jersey Canada's Star Brood Cow
program. This cow family descends from cattle
from the Pine Haven herd of Eric and Kelly
Thompson of Oxford in northern Nova Scotia.
Her sire Belle Online, marketed
by Select Sires,
is also from a fifth generation Excellent dam in
the Belle line.
Since early 2004 three opportunities
to
purchase a one-in-ten chance to own a
priceless English Bone China figurine of an
historic Jersey cow Ansom Designette have
been offered at Jersey events. To date those
first three of ten chances have attracted closing
bids totalling an impressive $3,000.
The figurine is part of small
limited edition
created over 25 years ago in the late 1970s.
The cow Designette was bred
by the afore-
mentioned Mrs. Perchard on Jersey Island and
presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by
the Jersey society on Jersey Island for her herd
at Windsor in England.
Emerson and Heather Kinkaid,
former Jersey
breeders and exceptionally passionate
supporters of the Jersey breed startled the
organizing committee with their largesse in
releasing this rare work of art to the committee.
The Kinkaids live at Grove
Springs Two at
Pakenham, in Eastern Ontario.
The furor and frenzy of this
amazing auction will
serve as an apt prequel to the 53rd Jersey sale
to be held at "the Royal". The Royal Sale of
Stars roars into being as soon as the World
Conference sale concludes. This annual top-
ranking sale will feature 25 superb young
Jerseys.
