JERSEY GREAT NEWS EXPLOSION
AMPLIFIES!!!
YOUNG JERSEY AT BRITISH
COLUMBIA
FARM DECISIVELY SHATTERS ALL TIME
PRODUCTION RECORDS!
A two year old Jersey cow
named Leedar West
Phoebe 36 has broken two existing All Time Canadian
Milk and Protein Yield Records by nice margins!
The new champion is owned
by Leroy and Darlene
Severinski, Leedar Jerseys, Maple Ridge, British
Columbia! Leroy is longtime herd manager for Davison
Jerseys in Maple Ridge and the Severinski's herd of
approximately 20 milking age females plus young stock
is managed as part of the larger Davison herd in a
loose-housing operation.
West Phoebe 36 is a daughter
of a homebred Davison
farm bull who in turn is a son of Select Sires sire Lester
Sambo. Her dam is sired by US A I sire BW Zukor.
Calving at the relatively
young age of 2-0 West Phoebe
36 yielded 11,474 kilograms of milk and 393 kilograms
of protein. In 330 days she has gone on to yield over
12,375 kgs of milk and 426 kgs of protein. (These
figures equate to over 25,200 pounds of milk and 866
pounds of protein in 305 days and over 27,200 pounds
of milk and over 935 pounds of protein in 330 days!)
Her milk yield easily surpasses
the previous All Time
Canadian Jersey production record for the Junior Two
Year Old class by over 660 kilograms or over 1460
pounds of milk! The previous standard had been set in
late 2000. Her protein production bests a 2002 record of
382 kilograms by 11 kilograms or over 24 pounds.
It seems West Phoebe 36 was
"born to work" as her
delighted owner Leroy Severinski reports that the
productive young champion was still rolling at over 80
pounds per day after sailing past 305 days in
production. She was proving to be "quite a challenge to
get dried off" before her next calving.
This young cow's first lactation
represents the terrific
productivity, early, easy calving and reproductive
excellence and will to work in practical situations of the
modern Jersey.
