HOLLYLANE COW WINS $1,000
FIRST PRIZE AT 2004 ROYAL
INTERNATIONAL JERSEY
FUTURITY!
Every November since 1976, 28 years ago, a
high quality fleet of top-of-the-line young Jersey
cows has competed in the Royal International
Jersey Futurity at the Royal Agricultural Winter
Fair. Three years earlier a "crop" of hundreds of
Jersey calves are entrered into the Futurity. As
time progresses and the heifers grow and
develop select animals are sustained in the
competition while others "fall by the wayside".
When the time came for contestants to enter
the ring at this years "Royal" the field had been
whittled down to nine superb young three year
old cows.
Leading the way as 2004 Judge Mark Brown's
(of Ma-Brown Jerseys, Dodgeville, Wisconsin)
first choice was Hollylane Jade Lilliana. The
2004 Futurity Champion was bred by Roger E.
Ray and Diane Jarrell-Ray of Hollylane Jerseys,
Corbyville, Ontario. Lilliana is sired by Giprat
Belle's Jade who is marketed by Rapid Bay
Jerseys, Ormstown, Quebec. This VG-88%
senior three year old has proven herself to be a
valuable cow at home as well with a two year
old record (expressed in kilograms) of 7866 375
4.8% 290 3.7% BCAs (315-278-305) and a
sparkling three year old projection of 10,828
481 4.4% 419 3.9% BCAs (364-293-371). A
cheque for $1,000 was presented to Hollylane
for this victory.
The second place finisher Paullor Extra Millie
VG-87% garnered a prize of $750 for breeders
and owners Paul and Lorraine Franken of
Paullor Jerseys, Clinton, Ontario. Millie has an
extremely long list of previous show ring
victories and is a high solids model with a three
year old projection of 6699 388 5.8% 275 4.1%
BCAs (229-241-248). Millie sired by a homebred
bull Paullor Saturn Extra.
The third prize of $500 went to another
Hollylane-bred cow Hollylane Renaissance
Magic VG-86% who is now owned byDevon
Lee Strandberg of Plover, Wisconsin, USA!
This cow is sired by the famed Hollylane sire
Hollylane Renaissance and is from the well
known show and production cow Pleasant Nook
Regal Madison. At two years Magic produced
7669 439 5.7% 277 3.6% BCAs (307-325-292).
The Futurity committee is chaired by Diane
Jarrell-Ray of Corbyville, Ontario with Larry and
Sue Sheardown of Schomberg, Ontario serving
as Secretaries. Other committee members are
Bobby Jarrell, Corbyville, Ontario; Andrew Van
der Meulen, Brighton, Ontario and Lorraine
Franken of Clinton, Ontario.
All 29 renditions of the RIJF have been
highlights of the RAWF Jersey program of
events.
