Dai Harvey reports in his e-mail of 6th January 2005:
The America dairy co-operative Land o Lakes has initiated a smallholder dairy operation programme in Zambia. After
much deliberation and research the team decided that the genetic improvement component will be based on World Wide Sire
Jersey semen. Inseminators have been trained, semen tanks filled with US Jersey semen have been sent to Zambia, and the
programme is now operational. Approximately 1,000 head of grade black and whites and Tonga cattle have been inseminated.
The Jersey crosses will hit the ground some time later in 2005. The four-year programme will eventually provide an
increasing number of Jerseys and Jersey-cross dairy cattle countrywide.
