Sweden

Sweden is a country of over 80 million hectares but less than 8% of the country is farmed. The farms, located in the south of the country average about 23 hectares. Jerseys were first imported in 1893 from the Island of Jersey. Today the country has about half a million dairy cows with just over one per cent being Jerseys. About 200 herds have Jerseys, most of which will include other breeds. The national average for Jerseys is close to 6,000 litres milk with 6% butterfat and 4% protein. Semen in imported from Denmark and the USA and Sveriges Jerseyforening works closely with Danish Jerseys to prove young sires.
