The U.S. Jersey has the most genetic influence across the world today. At home, demand for the breed
heavily outweighs the supply, and this is setting challenges that other breeds can only observe with envy. The American
Jersey Cattle Association is the world’s largest Jersey breed association and promotes Jersey breed improvement
through pedigree recording, production testing, type evaluation, and the application of advanced research and genetic
evaluations. The AJCA registered 69,244 animals in 2003, the eigth-best year in the 135-year history of the AJCA.
National All-Jersey Inc. develops markets for producers of high-solids milk and provides the information producers need to
understand milk marketing and to obtain equitable pricing for their higher yielding product. Jersey Marketing Service is
the leader in professional marketing of Jersey genetics in private treaty and public auction sales. The national average
for Jerseys in the USA in 2004 was 8,205 kgs milk (18,090 lbs.) 375 kgs fat (826 lbs.) 290 kgs protein (641 lbs.) on
62,340 records (305-day, 2x mature equivalent).
Registered Jerseys: 413,000
Non-registered Jerseys: est. 140,000
Cross-Bred Jerseys: est. 500,000 (impossible to come to exact figure, mostly Jersey x Holstein)
