World Jersey Newsletters
Australia 2025
Next year (April 2025) we are heading to Australia, and in line with our Strategic Focus Area 3 – Youth and Succession, we are very excited to support Australia’s initiative to include a Future Leaders Forum. Cost is always a prohibitive aspect for young people travelling to these events, so it is hoped that each of the National Associations will look to either sponsoring fully or subsidising a future leader from your membership, whom you believe will benefit from this experience. During the first part of tour we will hold our Annual Council meetings, and any member is welcome to come to these as an observer and to support your country representatives who participate in the Council meeting.

Hopefully we will see many of you in Australia but if not, remember we are only an email or zoom call away. We’d love to hear from you and receive your thoughts and ideas as to what World Jersey can do to help you. Alternatively feel free to share material and photographs suitable for the website.
Happy farming

February 2025
New logo
The World Jersey Council are excited to present to you, our new logo!

The logo depicts:
-
Our beautiful Jersey cow as standing strong and proud
-
The world/globe is depicted by the geographical coordinates of latitude and longitude
-
The red saltire (diagonal cross) acknowledges the saltire on the Jersey Island Flag
Website
Following on from the logo, is the development of the website. At this stage, the basic structure has been developed and currently we are populating the pages with the relevant information.
Once the website is live, there will be continual development and additions made to ensure that the website is continually fresh, relevant, informative and the “go to” for all things Jersey.
Part of the appeal of the website will be the beautiful photos of Jerseys – this is where you come in. All of you love taking photos of your favourite cow, inspiring herd scenes all the while capturing the enduring qualities of the Jersey breed.
You will get an opportunity to share those photos with us, whether it be through our competitions or featured in the body of the website.
As the website develops, we welcome your feedback and suggestions.
Watch this space as the website is scheduled to go live in mid-March.
Social Media
Very soon you will see a revitalised Facebook page, and World Jersey will be embarking on having an Instagram presence.
This will be a very busy area of activity for the World Jersey “family” and we encourage you to participate in these very exciting times for our beloved Jersey breed.
Happy farming

November 2024
It’s been a while since you’ve heard from us. However, your global organization remains active in the background to modernize itself. Through this newsletter, we would like to share with you the ongoing projects and recent information that you can find below:
Strategy
At the Annual Meeting in Guatemala in November last year the World Jersey Cattle Bureau Council presented its new strategy which was adopted by the membership. The strategy was the work of a focus group comprising of: Alison Gibb (NZ), James Godfrey (Jersey Island), Benoit Guioullier (France), Raffaella Finocchiaro (Italy), Liliana Quevedo (Colombia), Bent Olsen (Denmark) and Neal Smith (USA).
It was again presented in Denmark in June this year during the International Conference, but as there was only a limited representation of the membership present, we felt it was time to give you all an update of the decisions made:

World Jersey Cattle Bureau – will be trading as World Jersey
Vision: Jerseys – feeding the world and sustaining the planet
Purpose: To promote and develop the Jersey breed
Values: Sustainable, Transparent, Inclusive, Innovative, Integrity, Credible
Strategic Focus Areas:
-
Communication
-
Scientific
-
Youth/Succession
-
Financial
For the next 12 months we will be concentrating on Strategic Focus Area 1 – Communication by achieving the following.

To be relevant in today’s world we need to:
-
Review and modernise the logo
-
Set up a new website that provides our membership with relevant and up to date information, access to scientific research, updates on activities of the various regional forums and their contact details, focus articles on relevant issues/topics, virtual farm tours and above all – user friendly.
-
Improve communication with the membership through regular newsletter updates, social media that has a strategic purpose, sharing of ideas amongst member associations. Zoom connections are always available.
Update: We have gone through a tender process and met with a designer who is currently working on the new logo, and within the next week or so we should see the results of that work. In the meantime the Officers have put together a needs/wish list for the website so that the next step will be to begin building it.

The Officers of the Bureau, duly elected in Denmark in June, are:
-
President: Alison Gibb, New Zealand
-
Secretary: Olivier Bulot, France
-
Treasurer: teve le Feuvre, Jersey Island
-
Vice President Asia/ Oceania: Trevor Saunders, Australia
-
Vice President Europe: Jurgen Kouwert, Germany
-
Vice President Latin America: Roberto Paez Muzzulini, Colombia
-
Vice President Africa: Dai Harvey, United Kingdom
-
Vice President: North America: Alain Remond, Canada
With the new website we will have photos and a profile paragraph of each of the Officers.
WJCB International Confrerence June 2024

In June of this year we had a wonderful conference in Denmark followed by a very scenic trip to Norway. The conference itself covered a large range of discussion topics: Feed Intake, CFIT and Green House Gas, emissions and the ONIMIT project, beef on Jersey, monogenetic traits of Jersey, developing dairy products from Jersey milk to name just a few. All of these presentations can be found on this link :

As you will see from the website we also visited a large number of herds. Every single visit was an opportunity to talk to farmers, share stories, enjoy their cows and learn of the variety of technologies available to farmers – always interesting to see how they compare with your country. Thank you to all of the farmers who hosted and warmly welcomed us onto their farms. We appreciate the preparatory work and dedication that goes on in the background to ensure the smooth running of these visits.
Thank you to Peter Larson and all of the team at Viking Genetics who provided us with an informative, interesting and friendly conference.
After the conference we travelled by overnight ferry to enjoy a wonderfully scenic tour of Norway under the care and guidance of Sindre Arsvoll and Bjorn Lende. I believe we went through 47 tunnels and even experienced a roundabout in one or two of them. It is interesting to note that the regulations in Norway are such that if you have been out of the country visiting farms you are not permitted to go back to your farm for four days hence the beginning of the tour didn’t involve farm visits. Once we did, it was great to see the cows out on pasture for part of the day and once again enjoyed farming discussions with the Norwegian Jersey breeders. Thank you to you all for your wonderful hospitality.
Often these trips are viewed as a glorified holiday for retired farmers. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are many issues facing the dairy farmers and they are similar issues throughout the world; carbon emissions, bobby calves, dehorning, waterways and global warming to name but a few. The opportunity to mix with farmers from around the globe, to discuss and debate them, provide us with thoughts and ideas before returning home with a fresh outlook on an issue or simply appreciate that a regulation that we thought was tough in our own backyard isn’t nearly as bad as in another country. Knowledge is key. We appreciate that not everyone has the opportunity to travel, so World Jersey needs to bring the world to you through its website, Facebook and other social media channels. This is our challenge going forward.
We welcome any thoughts or ideas you may have.
